GIFRA

Every Monday at 7:00 pm, the group meets at the youth centre for its weekly meeting. These sessions address different life themes according to age. The members are currently divided into two groups: ages 11–13 and ages 14 and above. The younger group focuses on more concrete topics, such as friendships and relationships, while the older group explores deeper personal and spiritual themes.

Every Sunday at 9:00 am, the youth animate the Children’s Mass. They take care of the readings and singing and also organise dances, mimes, puppet shows, and short plays that help convey the message of the Sunday Gospel in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

Each year, the group organises and performs a musical centred on the Passion of Christ, presented from different perspectives. Over the years, the Passion has been explored through the eyes of various characters, including Pontius Pilate, a Roman soldier, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. On another occasion, the musical focused on the life of our patron saint, Saint Francis, as part of the centenary celebrations. Most recently, the Passion of Christ was reimagined in a modern courtroom setting.

Twice a year, once in summer and once during the Christmas period—the group organises live-in experiences. These focus on team building, strengthening relationships, and setting group goals for the months ahead. During these times, particular emphasis is placed on responsibility, accountability, unity, and how each member can contribute more effectively to the life of GIFRA.

Every year, the group organises GIFRAFEST, a festival that celebrates the many talents of our youth. The event includes a variety of performances such as dance, drama, and singing. Much of the summer is dedicated to preparing for this festival, with the aim of involving every member—either on stage or behind the scenes.

Throughout the year, the group organises several fundraising activities, both for its own needs and in support of charitable causes. The proceeds from the first-ever GIFRAFEST in 2018 were donated entirely to the ALS Foundation. In addition, the group usually organises fundraising activities twice a year for Puttinu Cares. This cause is especially close to our hearts, as one of our members was supported by this organisation.

Over the years, the group has organised various trips, including pilgrimages such as visits to Assisi and participation in the Jubilee of Youth. The group has also enjoyed leisure trips, including two visits to Etnaland in Sicily and others.

During the summer months, a wide range of activities is organised with the aim of strengthening friendships and enjoying time together. These include boat parties, pool barbecues, sleepovers at the youth centre, and other outings.

The youth also organise additional activities throughout the year, always striving to provide a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. These include family-invited parties, laser tag, participation in the Youth Jubilee, and activities dedicated to Saint Carlo Acutis. The group also takes part in initiatives aimed at promoting and making GIFRA better known among other youths in Malta.
